Protruded Teeth (Overjet)

Protruded front teeth can be an issue of tooth position, jaw disharmony or both. In orthodontics, we call this an increased overjet. In severe cases, the lower lip may sit behind the upper front teeth and push them further forward to accentuate the disharmony. Protruded teeth can be unattractive and prone to accidental damage. Sometimes, the lower front teeth can over-erupt and can be worn down and may cause damage to the gums behind the top front teeth. Orthodontic treatment involves the aligning, levelling, and coordination of both arches. In growing patients, the forward growth of the lower jaw assists this correction. There are many ways this bite is corrected, and, at Brisbane Orthodontics, it is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
