Thumb Sucking

Sucking the thumb (or fingers) can produce a localised deformation of the teeth and supporting bone (as illustrated on the right). Once the sucking habit has been stopped, natural improvement can occur in young patients. Orthodontic treatment to correct the malocclusion caused by thumb sucking will not be stable unless the habit has stopped. Our orthodontists are happy to discuss options to assist your child in stopping their thumb sucking habit.
